Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, Ludhiana.
The management welcomes all the students seeking admission at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana. Khalsa Education Council (Gujranwala) is one of the earliest Sikh Societies dedicated to the spread of education among the Sikhs. Originally christened as the Khalsa Committee, established in1889, its earliest endeavours fructified with the establishment of Khalsa High School in Gujranwala(now Gujranwala Guru Nanak Public School, Ludhiana). Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College was started initially at Gujranwala and was named after the renowned city Gujranwala and the Great Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Sant Teja Singh, M.A. (Harvard), a divine figure of Khalsa Panth was virtually the first Principal, who nursed the college. It was during his tenure that a vast building was raised on the land donated by the people of village Gharjakh. Leading Sikh educationists, Bhai Jodh Singh, Bawa Harkishan Singh adorned the office of the Principal of Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Gujranwala. When we faced partition in 1947, it was a full- fledged degree college affiliated to the Punjab University, imparting instructions in Humanities and Science, with Hons’ classes in Economics and History. A former President of Pakistan, as also an outstanding historian of that country were erstwhile students of this college. Among those who came to this side, Justice Harbans Singh, Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court & K.S. Narang, Chief Secretary, Punjab remained on the rolls of this college.
Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Gujranwala was resurrected in Ludhiana in 1953, and was rechristened Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College. It is now a multi-faculty premier Postgraduate Sikh Institute in Punjab, affiliated to the Panjab University. Thus, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana embodies within itself, a strange and fascinating tale of two cities, both known indusrial centres of the two countries.
Ours is one of the topmost institutions in Ludhiana which has been taking care of its proud and rich historical heritage since 1917. This year it is completing its centenary also. The management of the college is putting efforts and has been working to contribute towards the areas of education and society.
We are living in an era of science and technology. The institution aims to teach its students the use of technology, and guide them to think scientifically. The faculty contributes towards this by performing a significant role. I really hope that we, along with the Respected Principal Dr. Arvinder Singh and the worthy faculty, would be able to guide the learners and pave a smooth path for them. Its influence is not merely philosophic and academic but imminent and living also a kind of spiritual magic and an aura of immediate following of Guru Nanak ‘s ideals—both in thoughts and deeds.
Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College would always be ready for all types of co-operation. We believe that we would be able to perform the duties towards society, culture and students. We wish to create a temple, making dauntless and decent citizens as compassion, love and respect are also taught and imparted by the members of the faculty, not only through courses rather through cultural and religious activities also.
