PG Department of English

The Post Graduate Department of English of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana started running the graduate courses in 1953 and got the sanction of post graduation from Panjab University, Chandigarh in early 2000. The department also runs two add-on courses, Communicative English and Journalism to provide the students an all round development and give them exposure to the competitive world of progress and success. With a rich legacy of academic excellence, the department strives to provide a conducive learning environment for students who are passionate about exploring the world of English literature, linguistics, and related fields. The distinguished faculty members who are doctorate and are experts in their respective fields, bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and research expertise to the classroom. They have various books related to Indian Immigrant literature and English literature to their credit. The head of the department, Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur, is an award winning poet who has also got excellence in translating the books of other vernacular into English.

All the faculty members are committed to guiding and mentoring students, fostering intellectual growth, and encouraging independent thinking which has led them to secure university positions. We encourage and support research initiatives among our students. Our department organises seminars, workshops, and conferences where students can present their research findings and engage in scholarly discussions. The department regularly hosts literary events, guest lectures, and workshops with renowned writers, scholars, and experts from the literary world. These events provide valuable insights and inspiration to students. Our department boasts a well-stocked library with an extensive collection of books, journals, and digital resources. Students have access to online databases and archives to aid their research endeavours. Apart from academic pursuits, the department actively participates in various cultural activities, literary fests, and debates, fostering a sense of community and creativity among students. The Centre for Indian English Immigrant Studies has recently been established to keep pace with the world at international level along with promoting the immigrant Punjabi writers writing in English.
